Alyx Vance's boots seem to have been designed from a profile photograph of a boot that may not even exist, with a hand-drawn texture for the
top, so they were most likely not based on a pair of real-life boots, and I would have to find a similar pair of boots to modify into something a
bit more screen accurate.
The preparation of the boots
This was a fairly easy project because of how close these boots were to Alyx' boots to begin with, so I'm glad I could find such close analogues
instead of having to make these boots from scratch.
After relacing the boots, I used a wire-brush to scuff and weather the
boots in a similar pattern to the original.
The eyelets on Alyx' boots appear to be ordinary round metal eyelets,
so such eyelets were added to where I had removed the original ones.
Another major difference was the overall darker color that I decided
to bleach away by brushing hydrogen peroxide onto the surface of the
As far as accuracy goes, this pair of Timberland Pro Titan boots were
the closest ones to Alyx' boots that I could find.
They even featured the two leather lace tabs at the front, and an
appropriately Half-Life orange colored lining.
One of the more noticable differences were the black oval eyelets that
needed to be replaced.
Removing the eyelets revealed oval indentations in the leather that
were easily smoothed out with a steam cleaner.
